Tesla’s Model 3 car has debuted publicly. The car, 10 years in the making, was introduced by Tesla CEO Elon Musk at the Tesla studio in Hawthorne, California today.
The range of the car was put at 215 miles by Musk, and he said that while it will be one of the safest cars available globally, “you will not be able to buy a better car for $35,000, even with no options.” The price is a considerable reduction from the previous Model S and Model X which came to around $100,000 after tax deductions.
He said he was “fairly confident” the car would be available by the end of 2017.
The company says they already have over 130,000 $1,000-down preorders for the Model 3, and the number is increasing.
With 7,200 Superchargers coming standard with the car,it will be able to do 0-60 in 6 seconds. It will be available in rear-wheel and all-wheel drive, and the car will fit 5 adults.
The car will also have “more cargo capacity than any gasoline car of the same external dimensions,” according to Musk, who stated that the Model 3 is about where the driver “wants to go.”
