The Airstream line is the Cadillac of travel trailers, finished in the ever distinctive airplane aluminum makes for a sound tight integrity in the bodies and lesser wind drag as compared to the competition. The experts agree that the life of the Airstream can be forty years or more and estimates by the manufacturer believe that 60 to 70% of all such trailers are still in use today.
That is hardly a claim can be made by other trailer or RV manufacturers. Most brands are pretty worn after fifteen years, however the Airstream motorhomes will be at two-thirds of it’s life remaining. Not only offered in trailers, they also are available in two class B motor home models. Many buyers prefer them because of holding values greater than the competitors. Also, if you decide on a used model; one could be had for less than $20k. Another wonderful feature is the Airstream’s low center of gravity which provides greater stability should you have to make a quick maneuver, such as an object in the road. They fair much better aerodynamically, which equates to fuel mileage. Owning this type of RV is more of a lifestyle. In other words; you don’t just have a trailer, you own an Airstream motorcoach. There is the “Wally Byam Caravan Club International” known for it’s forum, local units to join, rallies and more is an established social Airstream motorhome club.
What to expect from the construction? The built-ins are made of solid and gracefully finished wood cabinets, not pressboard or synthetic wood. One 1994 motor home model in use at this time showed signs of wear beginning to the mattresses and cushions. Even after all those years, no warping, doors, drawers all move and function as they should. As mentioned earlier, constructed in airplane aluminum means the panels are riveted together for durability. On a thirty-four foot Airstream, three independent torsion axels are secured to it, versus much of the competition only has two axels. This makes for greater control while towing.
Even though this line is more pricey than the others, is it a wise deal? Keeping in mind they will last up to three times longer than most of the competition out there.
The cost of a motor coach like this drops a fair amount if you are not replacing it in fifteen years and also a better resale value than some box-model.
So a nice accommodation for recreation or full-time living. Also, Airstreams motorhomes are environmentally friendly; made from aluminum, wood and steel, thus completely recyclable.
