You might already know a lot about Unimogs, but if you don’t, they’re big RVs with a decent enough amount of power to push a heavy motorhome through the forest, and usually they go for a more minimalist style when it comes to exterior paint and interior design for the finishings and furniture, as compared with some of the big motorhomes made by Custom Coach, Thor, Prevost, and other manufacturers more active in North America.
We’ve noticed a couple of these extreme off road RVs on eBay recently, too. As an example, let’s look at the most recent one we saw, which may be of interest to anyone thinking of living off grid or RVing full time with excursions into the bush.
This is a Unimog Overland Expedition 4×4 Motorhome, and like many Unimogs, it’s a one-of-a-kind (they’re highly customizable, and Unimog owners like them for that reason – they can make them fit their RVing and camping needs). From the seller: “Built by SLRV in Australia with second to none build quality. Factory is happy to chat to prospective buyers.
It has the following features : solar panels x7 on roof, 2 x lithium battery’s, refillable gas bottles, air conditioning, Glass double glazed windows, scooter in garage, slide out bbq, wet radiator heating and gas truma blown air heating, corian work tops, compressed air tanks, basement contains water tanks, generator etc. built for long term touring, Smoke free, Pet free.” For something like this, the owner is asking just under $159,000 US dollars (it’s priced in pounds, but according to the current conversion rate that would be roughly the value). This price compares pretty well with used giant diesel pusher motorhome resales in the US, so it might just be a question of style when it comes to motorhome shopping.
