Did you know that the Studebaker E-Series truck actually has eight generations? While the trucks were still being produced, they used the “E-series” to differentiate it from their other lines of vehicles, but later they decided to use a numbering system from one to eight to designate specific models, such as the “E2” label for Studebaker trucks that were produced during 1956, and “E3” for the trucks that rolled out during the 1957-1958 year. Despite the care to assign numerical values to each generation, the Studebaker did not undergo many variations or upgrades due to the company being in financial straits.
In addition to the “E-series” name and number system, most of the Studebakers were sold under another model name, the “Transtar”. The specific models that used this moniker were the trucks sold from 1956-1958 and from 1960-1963. It has never been made clear why the “Transtar” label was only used for some of the Studebaker trucks and dropped in 1959 and again in 1964, but it disappeared and was replaced with the “Deluxe” label.
