While the Western Star 4900 Series may appear to be a standard, solid truck/tractor, don’t let its humble design fool you. It is the most popular model from Western Star, sold in North America, Australia, New Zealand, and South Africa, and is used by the Canadian and US Military. It even had a star turn Hollywood, in the Michael Bay Transformers film franchise, specifically Transformers: Age of Extinction and Transformers: The Last Knight.
What’s so great about the 4900? Visit Western Star’s website and look at the range of modifications available to suit every customer. Peek at the list of features, which includes double door seals (meaning less noise in the cab on your ride), marine grade rocker switches (which can be used even when the driver wears gloves. It also prevents damage from salt and water), a copper brass radiator (it’s even repairable on the go), and a honeycomb sleeper wall, which is constructed much like airline bulkheads (this means lightweight, yet strong material).

With dozens of military, construction, and off-road applications from bulk haul tankers to off-road mining to dump trucks to logging, the 4900 is a versatile, practical vehicle, able to be repaired on the road (this includes individual grille bars, the radiator, a hinged dash and power distribution modules in easy access places, and laser-etched chassis wiring and color-coding for troubleshooting), and to withstand extreme conditions – including spills, rolls, and wrecks (the 4900 comes with traction and stability control as well as the anti-lock brake system).
With special touches like threaded spring pins, grade 8 frame fasteners (which allows the vehicle to have optional or additional equipment installed and then retorqued as necessary), wiring standoffs and an in-cab blower motor (preventing exposure to the elements), the 4900 is the truck/tractor for just about every situation.
