This is Volkswagen’s ID Buzz, which is being touted as “the most versatile and emotional electric car ever.” While such a tag line might not tell you much about the new electric vehicle, the photos and some details will help fill you in on Volkswagen’s new direction.
According to the company (Dr Frank Welsch, Member of the Board of Management Volkswagen Brand for the Development Division), “The VW ID BUZZ is the next generation MPV. It is based on the new Modular Electric Drive Kit and provides comfort and loads of space for long journeys. Its electric range as per the NEDC is up to 600 kilometres.”
That’s right. This MPV is going to go 600 kilometers on a charge (373 miles). That’s far enough to visit neighboring towns or make a trip to the city.
Based on it’s charging power of 150 kW, it takes around 30 minutes to charge up to 80 per cent – that seems fast.
Specifications of the Volkswagen ID Buzz:
– Very long wheelbase (3,300 mm)
– Low center of gravity because the battery is in the floor
– Electronically regulated suspension and shock absorbers
-All-wheel drive system with output power of 275 kW / 374 PS (electric motors front and rear each delivering 150 kW)
– It’s a fast machine, with a speedy takeoff: the version of the ID Buzz that was debuted can do 100 km/h in 5 seconds; its top speed is restricted to 160 km/h.
There’s talk of a pickup truck version of the ID Buzz, too.
